Introduction to
Ornamental Fish Culture, Export Potential, Current Status, Importance and
Advantages, Different varieties of commercially important ornamental fishes,
identification characters and their trade names. 4 hrs
Unit - II
Water quality
management and maintenance, color, temperature, transparency, PH, dissolved
oxygen, free carbon dioxide, total hardness, salinity,Construction of home aquarium: wall, bed, filling up the
tank, lighting, stocking, aquatic plants, other requirements-hand nets, gravel,
pebbles, sea plants, gums, filters-mechanical/biological/under gravel chemical,
aerators-air lift pump, air store, cleaning and maintenance of aquarium. 8 hrs

Food and feed
management in ornamental fishes, feed preparation, feed formulation and feeding
rate. Different kinds of feed, live feed and dry feed. Culture of fish food
organisms, Breeding habits: Choosing breeding stock, Breeding of egg layers,
live bearers, spawning care, care after spawning. 12 hrs

care in aquarium fishes, common ailments and treatments, Transportation of
